Safety, Style & La Dolce Vita

I’m excited to share my insider tips for making your Roman holiday both safe and spectacular.

Must-See Roman Treasures

No visit to Rome would be complete without experiencing the Colosseum, where history echoes through every arch. Book your tickets online to skip the notorious queues.

The Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel are simply breathtaking. Go early or book a late afternoon slot to avoid the worst crowds.

The stunning Pantheon remains my favorite architectural marvel – and it’s free to visit! Pro tip: arrive just before opening to beat the tour groups.

Hidden Gems

Escape the crowds at the ethereal Basilica di San Clemente, where you can descend through three levels of Roman history.

The peaceful Palazzo Altemps houses beautiful sculptures in a Renaissance palace setting.

The charming Palazzo Colonna offers an intimate glimpse into Roman aristocratic life with stunning Baroque artworks.

Where to Stay Safe & Sound

I recommend these female-friendly neighborhoods:

Monti: Hip, central, and well-lit at night

Trastevere: Charming and lively, with plenty of evening activity

Historic Center: Touristy but secure, especially around Via del Corso

Accommodation Sweet Spots

Hotel de la Ville – Luxury near Spanish Steps (€400+/night)

Hotel Artemide – Boutique mid-range (€200-300/night)

The Beehive – Female-friendly hostel/hotel hybrid (€80-150/night)

Female-Focused Tours

Cultural Know-How

Dress modestly for churches: covered shoulders and knees required. I always pack a light scarf to throw over summer outfits.

Evening dining starts late – most Romans eat dinner after 8:30 PM.

Solo female travelers should feel comfortable but stay alert as in any major city.

Dining Delights

Roscioli – Upscale Roman cuisine (€50-70/person)

Salumeria Roscioli – Casual but fantastic (€30-50/person)

Da Enzo al 29 – Traditional trattoria (€25-40/person)

Getting Around

Uber operates but only Uber Black (luxury service). Regular taxis are reliable but insist on the meter.

Download the FREE NOW taxi app for peace of mind.

Metro is safe and efficient during operating hours (5:30 AM – 11:30 PM).

Emergency Contacts

US Embassy: Via Vittorio Veneto 121, +39 06 46741 Police: 113 Ambulance: 118

Weather & Packing

Best months: April-May or September-October Pack comfortable walking shoes – Rome’s cobblestones are stylish but challenging! Light, breathable clothing that covers shoulders/knees for churches Cross-body bag with secure zippers Portable phone charger

Remember bella, Rome wasn’t built in a day, so don’t try to see it all at once! Take time to savor your gelato, people-watch in piazzas, and live la dolce vita.

Buon viaggio!
